At some point (between 15 minutes and a couple of hours) the flashing stops and the router even detects a connected Ethernet cable, but Wireshark runs on the connected PC and shows no connection attempts from the router. After completing my task, I tried to flash it back to dd-wrt and it got bricked. It was impossible to restore the firmware with the tftp method.
